Cafe Katz and a small gallery

So, it is another cloudy day. I didn't have any class due to the weird schedule of the marketing class. So I have like three classes tomorrow, and apparently, two are clashing because they are on same time... So I have to make a decision. Anyways, I went to the city centre to buy the camera cap that I have lost at the fashion party. 50 DKK for freaking cap... Gosh I should have made it myself or something. But, it is true that I got a bit relieved because I couldn't carry my camera without the cap. The lense is the holy, gifted subject that should not be harmed. :)

After buying the cap, I walked towards the square where the Cafe Norden is. That was my destination, but somehow I wanted to go to this cafe called Cafe Katz, so turned around. I went there first time in September when my mom came to visit. She was working in Black Diamond (Yes, she still had to work) and we were just walking around, looking for a place to eat lunch. Then we found this cafe, and just went in without expecting anything, but it turned out pretty well and seemed like it is quite famous amongst people. The place was very busy, and most importantly, food was absolutely fantastic. We had brunch menu, and everything was delicious. The price was also very fine, it was around 80~100 Kr, so I guess you just pay a bit more than a Big Mac menu, and enjoy a good food. hehe

Reeeeeeed. It's very red. People gave me a weird look like 'Why is he taking a picture of post box??'
Right next to the canal.

A random... hallway... or I don't know what to call this thing.

Cafe Katz is over there! on the very left side of the picture, right next to the yellow building. The yellow building is a gallery. It had few art works which were very interesting and inspiring. I got the website's address, so if they allow me, I would like to post some of her work later.

After seeing the painting and talking to the guy at the gallery, I am now heading to the Cafe Katz. It's like... 5 steps away. Such a long walk... : p
There it is. It seems they sell really cheap coffee if you order take away. 10 KR for a cup of coffee!!! wow nice. But the thing is you never know the size. Maybe I should try it and tell you.

This is inside. It's not like a biiiig cafe, but somehow, I realized that compared to the other ones around this area, a lot people came in and it was pretty busy by the time I left. It was same when I came here last semester. I guess it's because food here is quite cheap compared to other places (around 70~110 Kr). Food here is quite good... both quality and quantity. The waiter and waitress might be a bit slow, they chat and do other things and never take your order lol But once you are successful, you get to enjoy the rich flavored food for cheap price. Today it was a bit early and I had to go to gym so I didn't eat anything. Just ordered a latte.

Prices for coffee. It's alright I guess! About the same as other cafes.

I was making plans for trip around Scandinavia. I really want to go to Stockholm, so brought a book and read it thoroughly.

The bar. They also sell drinks... so it's like cafe/ restaurant/ bar. Well a lot of places are like this but still... I think it is nice. You can eat, drink, have fun in same place.

These are some extra photos on the way back home.

Nice little street.

So.... cafe Katz. It's a wonderful place. If anyone wants to have a lunch, dinner, or drink, I highly recommend it!! Well of course I basically recommend all the places I post. So... let me know if you want to go together. : D

The Livingroom Cafe, and Frikadella at my place

The Living room cafe. Sounds really ... cozy. It's a place with bunch of comfy sofas so you could lie down, lean on the wall, and just sit in any position you can think of. Just like what you do in your living room. :) So I would like to share my story with the cafe livingroom.

Snow was still there. grrrrrrrrrrrrr........... anywho I am therefore, taking the bus. Don't want to stumble in front of everyone with my bike... so. haha

Frederiksberg Alle covered with snow. Somehow I've never been to this area before I moved in... and I think it will look way much cooler when it is all green with all the trees.

I love these signs for bus. Colorful objects always make me excited. Anyways, the thing I love about CPH is that you can just go anywhere all day long, even during late night because of the very nice, passenger-friendly bus system with night bus. They all have this "N" with their numbers on the signs. 93N is the one that runs the same or similar route to 26.

Here I am. The city centre. The road is really nasty with all the grey-colored snow... shit that's not pretty. lol So, the cafe livingroom is very close from the place you see in the picture. Just in case, I am kindly putting up a hand made map for your convenience. :D

Hope this thing makes sense. So, in the previous picture I am standing where the arrows start. Except that I am facing backward... So you go along with the little road, until you reach a street called Larsbjørnsstræde. Then turn right, and if you go straight from there, it is on the left hand side at the first intersection.

On the way to the cafe. If you see the yellow house at the little intersection, you are there. Livingroom is just right across from it.
Tada~~~~~~ here it is.

This is not the cafe, it is the building that you see when you walk out of the cafe, but I really liked the strong contrast of the street sign and the apricot-yellow wall of the building. Color... nice blended color of all the buildings and its harmony. mmm BEA--utiful. Anywho, let's go inside to this cozy livingroom cafe.

It has two floors, and the entrance is in between the floors. Up, there is the bar, or the counter whatever you call it, and down there is the lounge with a fireplace and bunch of comfy sofas and chairs. We are going to find a seat, and then come upstairs to order. Gosh,......... fullllllllllllllllll

Those people never want to take their asses off the freakin' chairs. I know that. Well... of course I would do the same..... but you know, I am such an egocentric person. When I do it, it is okay and when others do it it is jsut insane. In Korean we have a saying, that goes "If I cheat on my lover it is a romance, if you cheat on your lover it is adultery". Yea, just like that..... Gosh I'm such a bad person. lol  But fortunately Sophia found a seat deeper down at this cave-looking place. Now they have gone up to order. Vicky and I had already ordered so we stayed. But this is how it looks like upstairs.

Jeg vil gerne have en cafe au lait... :) Tak skal du have.

As you walk down after you order, you will see that there is another seat right by the entrance. I really really really want that lamp in my room... the one that bends and shines above your head. And maybe I will have a really comfy relaxing chair that you can almost lie down and read... ahh that sounds so good. haha I will cut the crap. But this is the kind of things that I always think about when I see something attractive like that.

Wall decoration by the staircase. Interesting painting.

And to the downstairs. Don't really know what all those brouchers are about. But it looks good.

The light downstairs is very dim, so it is hard to take photos.

More shots of the basement. It's quite dark. But in real life it is much better than how it looks on photo. :)
So, yea... Cafe livingroom... is really like a living room. I really wanted to sit by the fireplace... maybe next time. My dear friend Arthur works just down the street like 3 mins so maybe I could go with him after his work is done or something.

So after this, Vicky, Sophia, Ji-hye, Tae-woo and I decided to go to my place for dinner. I really hesitated because my room was such a mess and it was like someone turned it upside down so that every stuff just fall on the floor. Ummmm ...yes, let's go... I finally said yes. And then when we got here I just had to keep them in the kitchen until my cleaning was done. haha... Anywho. We made frikadella with minced meat and some potatoes well baked potatoes. YUUUM

Everyone is gathered in my kitchen and making lovely meatballs. :)
Vicky and Tae-woo. Mmmm I can almost smell the food just by looking at this photo. They made it really well and it tasted awesome.

Finiiished! Doesn't it look nice. It's like our own little restaurant. haha... and it was just fantastic with the nice gravy of the meat and its combination with the potatoes.

Can you taste it? : p

So it was a very nice evening... the cafe and the dinner... everything was great about today. Nice cafe... nice food. Nice people. More things to post on my blog. How great is that. :D

A walk, and Bang & Jensen Cafe

I went for a walk since the weather was sooo nice. It was January 30th. After the soul-sucking heavy snowfall that slapped my face, it was finally a sunny, bright day. Not really cold as well. 1 degree. Slightly windy but a very pleasant wind that makes you sing and excited. Anywho, I just grabbed my camera, and left my house. Today, I just wanted to go for a walk towards Istedgade, the hidden place of Copenhagen that not many people know.

Clear sky, and my lovely apartment :D
Frederiksberg. It is an interesting part of Copenhagen where I live. It is a very wealthy part of the city, (although I am not one of them :( ... ) and they have different zip code for each street, whereas other parts of the city have one number for the whole area. For example, my street Kochsvej is 1812, and the next street is 1813, then the next one is 1814 and so on. My housemate Signe and Andreas told me the reason why they made it like that but I forgot it... Maybe I should ask them. :) It was something about them making it as an independent district to pay less tax or something... anywho!

I walked towards Vesterbrogade, and turned towards Istedgade. I went through a tiny road that looked like it connects to nowhere, but it had some interesting grafiti works on apartment walls.

Another grafiti thingy. And from here I just walked and walked to Istedgade, and went into this place called 'Bang & Jensen'. It is a cafe on Istedgade, and is recommended by some other sightseeing blogs and websites as one of the local's favorite places. Last time I went there it was full of people and couldn't find any seat, so I had to go somewhere else, but this time, luckily I had one. JEAHHHH

This is where you order. Prices are okay.

The lady is making a coffee for me. I ordered a latte. It was very soft, well blended and nice. :)

I love when the pictures in frames are hung on a wall like this. It gives more variety and energy to the space. Today it looks even cooler with the sunlight pouring in. Someday I want to have my own room decorated like that with some stuffs that I drew. It's just a small dream of mine.

mmm I think that candlestick is really classic. I want it.

It was a very cozy place to just sit down and enjoy the coffee, and read. I didn't bring my sketch book with me, so couldn't really do anything fun. But I took a lot of pictures instead. Bang & Jensen is my suggestion also, if you want to just go and hang out, talk for hours and relax. It is a very cozy place, and even has some pinball machines for your entertainment. :)

The last picture I took in the cafe. Love her smile. Then I went out, and checked out this small park between the Istedgade and Vesterbrogade.

Something about this building and the wall draws my attention. It's old and new parts are well mixed together to create this unique sense. Blue paints add more fun, and it is a strong contrast with the yellow. Also, this time of the day was really good for this picture. See how it vividly shines on the wall, and making some nice shadows of balconies.

Connection of the two worlds

I am now heading back to my apartment. It is Vesterbrogade again.

One post on the poll just caught my attention. 'Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit'. This is the good thing about taking pictures. You get to pay more attention and look closely on every subjects you face while you walk, which otherwise would have been missed. As you look more into daily life, people, and stuffs you pass by everyday, it is actually very interesting and all of them have their own beauty. More and more stories are discovered, more things to compliment, and appriciate. Writing blog and taking pictures, drawing... all of these are what makes my life more interesting and fun these days.

I am seriously considering a photography lesson or something to take good pictures. Also when I go back to Korea, I want to learn how to do oil painting. Those are one of my goals for 2010.

Anywho, hope you enjoyed the short walk! It's very late at night (2:38am) and I've got two classes tomorrow... so better go to bed. :) Nighty night everyone.
